1. Our linen program requests guests to consider re-using towels and washcloths and not having sheets changed daily; thanks to our guests, this has really been cutting down on water use and cleaning products without having an impact on guests' enjoyment.
2. Our rooms (and the entire Inn) are non-smoking; we do allow smoking on the patio.
3. Each of our rooms has a recycling basket for guest use (recyclable paper, and glass and plastic bottles). We also separate recyclables from our operating waste stream and also separate all green waste for composting.
4. Our rooms have fluorescent lighting with CFLS in lamps and overhead ceiling fan/lights. We've also added skylights to 4 of our rooms to minimize the need for electric light use.
5. We are using (or purchasing new) Energy Star certified appliances and TVs/radios and A/C units
6. We are using non-toxic cleaning products in the rooms with their associated “clean/fresh” smells and reduced environmental impacts
7. We have large houseplants in the common areas to help clean indoor air
8. We use washable glasses, cups and wine glasses in each guest room
9. We have painted our room walls with no-/low-VOC paints
10. We use recycled bathroom paper products
11. Five of our 6 rooms have ceiling fans (the other has a floor fan) to reduce the use of A/C units during summer and gas heating during winter
12. We provide newspapers in our common areas (dining room/parlor) rather than in each room.

1. Very low flow (1.5 to 2.5 gpm) showerheads and (0.5 gpm) sink aerators-we currently have low flow showerheads and toilets in place
2. Dispensers for soap and shampoo-we currently use 1.5 oz containers for our guests
3. All-natural, biodegradable amenities-we currently use amenities by the Fullers' Soap Company in Novato, California (also reduces the environmental costs of delivery; they're only 25 miles away)
4. Organic cotton or bamboo bed and bath linens-we're looking into new purchases for this important guest amenity, but have some concerns about the “harshness” of the feel of some of these products
5. Energy management system-we are currently using individual room A/C units in all rooms, and individually controlled natural gas fireplaces (5 rooms and the parlor) and electric/oil space heaters (1 room and the office) units to minimize energy use in rooms that are not occupied. The room fireplaces have electronic ignition which eliminates gas consumption when no-one is in the room, or ambient temperatures are higher than the thermometer setting (set by guests).
